How to care for Timberland boots

Whether you’re trekking through the great outdoors or just strolling the urban jungle, Timberland boots are made to go the distance. Built with rugged durability and iconic style, these boots are an investment in long-lasting performance. But like anything worth having, they need proper care to stay in top shape.

Get on the front foot with Protective Spray

Before you even step foot out the front door, treat them with a water and stain repellent. This invisible layer helps guard against water, mud, and spills from the get-go. Make sure the boots are clean and dry before applying, and let the spray sit overnight for best results.

This Balm Proofer Water and Stain Repellent is designed to protect cotton, polyester, canvas, leather, suede, nubuck, nylon, and fabric without reducing breathability.

Keep the dirt at bay

Timberlands tend to pick up dust and debris quickly when worn in rugged environments like the worksite. A soft-bristled suede brush is your best friend here. Brush in one direction to lift dirt and restore the natural nap of the leather. For smooth leather Timberlands, a damp cloth and mild soap solution work well, followed by drying with a soft towel.

The Timberland Suede Brush will help revive the nap on suede or nubuck leather, keeping your suede boots looking stylish.

Spot clean with the right tools

If you’ve got a stubborn scuff or stain, a suede eraser can help with light marks. For tougher stains, mix a few drops of gentle dish soap into warm water, dip a cloth into the solution, and blot the area carefully. Don’t rub too hard as it can damage the texture. After cleaning, let the boots air-dry naturally out of direct sunlight and do not use heaters or dryers, which can warp the shape or crack the leather.

The Timberland Travel Cleaning Kit includes the Balm Proofer, Stain Repellent and Foaming Cleaner to keep your Timbs tip-top.

Deep clean occasionally

Every few months, it’s worth giving your Timberlands a proper deep clean. Remove the laces, brush off loose dirt, and use a specialty boot cleaner or diluted saddle soap. For suede or nubuck, use products made for those materials to avoid discolouration. After cleaning, stuff the boots with newspaper or a shoe tree to help them retain their shape while drying.

Smart storage

Don’t just toss your Timberland work boots in a corner when you’ve left the jobsite. Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. If they’re wet, make sure they’re fully dry before storing to prevent mould and odours. You can also stuff them with paper or use boot shapers to help them hold their form between wears.

Replace laces and insoles

Even if your boots are well cared for, laces and insoles often don’t get the love and attention they deserve. Replacing laces and innersoles when they show signs of wear can give your boots a like-new feel. Check out our Timberland boot laces and keep that classic Timbs look with original laces.

Rotate and Rest

As much as you may love them, giving your Timberlands a break from daily wear occasionally can help prolong their life. Rotating between different pairs allows the boots time to dry out naturally and reduces wear and tear. If you’ve got a few pair of Timbs in your wardrobe, alternate them every now to keep them a rest between wears.

With just a bit of maintenance, your Timberlands can last for years and look as iconic as the day you bought them. Treat them right, and they’ll return the favour. Match your Timberland work boots with some work clothing for the full look.
